Middle Africa Tours to Libreville

Libreville is the capital and major port of Gabon situated on the northern shore of the Gabon River estuary. The population of this city was between 467,000 and 541,000 in 2004. Products include rubber, timber, palm-oil, cacao, cement, and minerals consisting of the rare materials like, uranium and manganese. In 1849 Libreville was founded as a refugee camp for slaves freed by the French. This place was once the capital of French Equatorial Guinea. There is the Sainte-Exupéry French Cultural Centre and a university in this historical city. Tour to Libreville is a journey from wonder to wonder.

Libreville is both the largest city and the capital of Gabon. The city is a port on the Gabon River, just near the Gulf of Guinea, and a trading center in the timber region. The Libreville area was once inhabited by the Mpongwé tribe even before France acquired the lands here in 1839. The slaves who were freed were sent there from the ship L’Elizia. In 1848 this place was named “Libreville”, the French word for “Freetown”. Once it was the main port of French Equatorial Africa.

Tour to Libreville is not only all about wandering through the impeccable beaches, but enjoying varied range of water sports and making your Libreville holidays much more enjoyable and fun-filled.

Sight-seeing in Libreville consists of the National Museum that houses a number of Arts and Traditions of Gabon. The French cultural centre, St Marie’s Cathedral is decorated with carved wood patterns. The church of St Michael, Nkembo is another place worth-visiting. Arboretum de Sibang and two other cultural villages must be in your schedule of the Tour to Libreville. The major market in Libreville is located at the Mont-Bouët. Gabon’s school of administration and the school of law in Libreville are housed in beautiful buildings. Apart from Omar Bongo University there are various research institutes and a library in Libreville.
