Somalia, is an Eat African country, situated in the famous “Horn of Africa”. To its north lies the Gulf of Aden and to its southwest, the country of Tanzania. The east coast of Somalia is flanked by the Indian Ocean. The country has some breathtakingly beautiful locales and grand places to visit. Somalia had been torn apart due to the civil strife, which has been raging from 1990. Presently, though the country has been recovering from its horrid past. The capital city of Mogadishu is still under the rule of warlords, but even the there are quite a few places to visit in Somalia. There are three provinces in Somalia, which has several cities and scenic locales to visit. Though it is advisable for individual tourists to not visit Somalia, yet, if you have an adventurous spirit, you can travel to Somalia at your own risk.
The three regions of Somalia are Gedo, Somaliland and Puntland. The last two regions are self declared countries and are governed by local governments.
Places to visit at Gedo:
Cities of Gedo – the border cities of El Wak and Beled Hawo can be two major destinations which tourists would like to explore.
Natural beauty of Gedo – the breathtaking natural beauty of Gedo includes Diirhara, Gogol mountain ranges, Daawo, Gowraar and Shawaay. The famous pastures and plateau lands of Gedo are also very beautiful.
Places to Visit at Somaliland:
Cities of Somaliland – Hargeisa is the capital city of Somaliland and is safe when compared to the situation in the rest of Somalia. Berbera, is another prosperous city which serves as the economic lifeline of Somaliland.
Other attractions of Somaliland- Hargeisa are a museum and a zoological garden. The bustling bazaars of Hargeisa and Berbera also provide visual delights to the visitors.
Places to visit at Puntland:
Puntland, is situated in the southern parts of Somalia, a place which is rich in natural beauty.
Apart from these places to visit at Somalia, there are several other cities and prehistoric caves and cave paintings which are sure to attract the attention of the tourists.
